Footprints Author Unknown One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."
The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
My husband and I have been married for 24 years now. During the past 24 years we have reflected back on this story and feel it best describes our walk with the Lord. There are just to many times where we can reflect upon trials we have endured and upon looking back we know that it is our Fathers footprints we see as He carried us through. So many times it's just to easy to get angry at God and question "WHY" have you done this to me? It isn't that God has done anything to us; what we must remember is the fact that when things do go wrong, if we allow God to carry us through He will never fail us. Of course my point here is the fact that WE must be willing to allow our Father to carry us through, HE is just waiting for us to ask! Believe me when I tell you this because I am speaking from experience, the loss of my husbands and my own brothers, the loss of 2 nieces and 1 nephew, the loss of our first son and the challenges of raising a mentally ill child. There are so many other trials that we have faced but believe me when I tell you that...God is good! 'Til next time
